Experiment  in voorbereiding: de keramische gomdruk.

Momenteel onderzoekt Joyce Ennik samen met dr. Bert-Jan Baas (gepromoveerd chemicus, RUG
Groningen en UT, Austin, Texas) naar de mogelijkheid om de gomdruktechniek toe te passen op
keramiek met vuurbestendige pigmenten.

Joyce Ennik, beeldend kunstenaar gespecialiseerd in de gomdruktechniek en Bert-Jan Baas,
als wetenschapper en als belangrijk specialist van de analyse van kunstglazuren, verbonden
aan het Wetenschappelijk Instituut van Keramisch Museum Goedewaagen in Nieuw-Buinen,
streven naar een symbiotisch onderzoek dat zal  gaan resulteren in een serie gomdrukken,
waarbij het fotografisch beeld is ontwikkeld met keramische materialen op een keramische
ondergrond. Dit zal zowel belangrijke technische als kunstzinnige toevoegingen kunnen gaan
betekenen en daardoor nieuwe interessante  kunstwerken kunnen gaan opleveren. Inspiratiebron
hierbij is een serie unieke foto’s die Joyce Ennik 40 jaar geleden maakte in het oostelijk gebied van
Drenthe waar destijds nog op half-mechanische manier turf gestoken werd. Actueel in deze
tijd van ontwikkelingen binnen de energievoorziening.  

Pilot-stage experiment: the ceramic gum bichromate printing process

Joyce Ennik and dr. Bert-Jan Baas (PhD in chemistry, RUG Groningen and UT Austin, Texas) are
currently researching the possibility to develop a ceramic gum bichromate printing process using
fire-proof materials and pigments.

Joyce Ennik, visual artist specialized in the gum bichromate printing process and dr. Bert-Jan Baas,
ceramic glaze specialist associated with the Scientific Institute of the Goedewaagen Ceramics
Museum, are engaged in a symbiotic research project that will result in a series of gumprints where
the image is captured exclusively in ceramic materials on a ceramic body. This novel concept will
add significant technical as well as artistic aspects to both the fields of printing and ceramics, and
will result in an interesting series of art works. A unique series of photographs by Joyce Ennik, shot
40 years ago in the easternmost part of the province of Drenthe, where at the time peat was still
mined by a half-mechanical method, serves as a source of inspiration. A current topic given
the present transition from fossil to renewable sources of energy.
